Can't complete a clean install of macOS High Sierra from USB. Macintosh HD not becoming a start up disk
I am trying to do a clean install of macOS High Sierra. I've done clean installs of macOS plenty of times, but I have never had this problem. I am booting into my installation media on USB. The installation tools appear as they should. I'm using Disk Utility to erase Macintosh HD into a clean APFS drive. I then select Install macOS and follow the prompts, select Macintosh HD, and it restarts. However, Macintosh HD does not become a startup disk -- I just reboot into the USB installer media. In Disk Utility, there's 5GB of content on the disk, but it does not appear in the Startup Disk menu nor if I hold option on boot. What's going on here? First Aid says the drive is fine.

How can I debug Grafana in WebStorm?
So I've been working on upgrading one of our web services, Grafana. I've been chugging along just looking at the Chrome console for errors as I go, but it's become apparent that not having a proper debugger setup is a time sink.
I have a license for WebStorm and I'd prefer to use it but I'm not exactly sure how to setup a debugging session for this particular service, because the docs have me build a binary file that gets run,
./bin/grafana-server-- I'm not exactly sure how to set this up as a run configuration since I'm not really sure where the "entry" is for the service.
productbuild installer "Destination Select" step is skipped using domains
My package installer is using the domains feature in my distribution.xml
<domains enable_currentUserHome="true" enable_localSystem="true" enable_anywhere="false"/>
However, the "Destination Select" step is skipped in the installer, and goes straight to "Installation Type". You can navigate to the "Destination Select" tab from the "Installation Type" tab if you select the "Change Install Location" button. However, I would like the wizard to progress as normal.
Missing Files in Vagrant Synced Folder Path
My installation of vagrant is not seeing every file within the synced folder path.
From my Mac shell:
my-mac:seeds pivot$ ls -la BeltContentP*Seeds.php -rw-rw-r-- 1 pivot staff 3034 Dec 7 11:21 BeltContentPageSeeds.php -rw-rw-r-- 1 pivot staff 1627 Dec 6 16:54 BeltContentPostSeeds.php
From my Vagrant shell:
vagrant@homestead:~/Code/demo.larabelt/all/database/seeds$ ls -la BeltContentP*Seeds.php -rw-r--r-- 1 vagrant vagrant 1627 Dec 6 21:54 BeltContentPostSeeds.php
If I rename the missing file in my host system, it appears on my guest.
This issue appeared after upgrading my Mac OS to High Sierra 10.13.1. I had otherwise used this setup successfully for probably 2+ years.
I have since tried to upgrade the various related packages, as well as reinstalling various items, but it has not solved the issue so far. Downgrading my Mac OS to the previous version does not appear to be easy or straightforward.

How to locate the current path of a Windows service in Qt?
I have an application which is installed and run as a Windows service. In a given time, I need to locate the current application path (that is, the installation path) where other, needed files are located.
Unfortunately I'm being unable to find this directory using the traditional methods (
QDir::currentPath()). Every time this functions are called, they either return blank or the system32 folder.
I tried to improvise using
QStandardPaths::findExecutable, but it didn't solve my problems. My last resort for now is creating a script that creates an entry in the registry telling the service where to look for, but since the installation is supposed to be just an "extract from compressed file", I'd like to avoid this option.
So which other method Qt makes available to make this specific circunstancial task?

How to do a "soft" shutdown inbetween loading different operating systems?
Hi I have noticed that when my computor dies and regains, it reboots to the GRUB bootloader.
If I was working on Windows, I may then choose to boot into my Ubuntu partition.
After working on Ubuntu, when I restart to switch back to Windows it boots from Grub and then opens directly to the last point at which my computer died.
I am wondering if there is anyway I can intentionally do this shutdown "sleep"-esque effect in Windows and Ubuntu.
It would be convenient as I don't like waiting a year for Windows to boot up.
---unsure if this is hardware specific or maybe even a bug.
OSX Write permissions for files on external usb drive always change to read only, when another user changes the file
maybe this is not a real programming question, but I hope you can help.
I really got an annoying behaviour here. I already read OS X El Capitan – File Sharing Restrictions But the answer is not making me happy XD
We got the following setup: - iMac A (El Captain) with an external HDD (TimeMachine saved backup here, plus there are files, which iMac A, iMac B and iMac C are using) User: md, gm - iMac B (High Sierra) Users: gm - iMac C (High Sierra) Users: gm
So, in the beginning I set up write permissions for the shared folder in the hdd for actually gm, md.
But: When User gm changes a file in the HDD using iMac B, the write permission for md is gone and vice versa....
How can I set gm and md to ALWAYS have write permission to a specific folder on the HDD?
How to implement mutex functions by hand?
I am trying to implement mutex functions (ex. mtxopen, mtxclose, mtxlock, mtxunlock) by hand and I haven't been able to find on the internet some piece of explicit code. It's for a personal project, it does not have to be flawless as I will not rely on it or make use of it afterwards.
Any help would be appreciated. Thank you.
How do I set number of processors in command prompt?
I have 16 gigs across 4 DIMMs. Recently windows started doing the (12gb usable) thing. Yes they all work and are all matching sticks, and no I haven't changed any timings or clocks. Using win7 64... 2 months ago it was fine and saw all 16 as usable. I noticed all the windows 7 computers at work are doing the same, so I'm not sure what's going on there but it seems to be common. I know some cards require their own dimm to run properly but considering my 1080 was in there before it started doing this, I had a hunch it might be a bug. So I went to msconfig, boot tab, and checked the maximum memory box, where it automatically set it to 16gigs. I was going to reboot and see if that worked, but I noticed the number of processors checkbox to the left of that, and decided to tell it I had 6 (because I had 6 cores), not sure what I was expecting there.
Well now she blue screens even on boot into safe mode. Now I'm kind of screwed. I can get startup repair to come up and can bring up command prompt. I know there's a way to tell it to go back to a single processor, or deactivate those check boxes, but I don't know the commands for that. Does anyone here know?
I can see it in bcdedit but I don't know the command or syntax to tell it to set the 6 to a 1.
Update- I can change it with "bcdedit /set numproc 1" but it refuses to stick. I reboot and same thing. Back into cmd and it's back at 6?

Start script on boot, is rc.local the best way?
I have to launch a set of script (about 10) on startup. In this moment I have a very long rc.local file that launches many commands in a specific order.
My question is, is this the best way to achieve what I need. Is there a better way? Maybe something that allows me to manage dependencies in a more elegant way?

How to install Tensorflow with correct compiletime on Mac OS High Sierra?
I'm trying to install Tensorflow on my computer (running Mas OS High Sierra). I don't have a lot of experience with Python and Anaconda, but I tried (following the advice on Anaconda Cloud):
conda install -c conda-forge tensorflow
Everything worked fine and I had to install also a bunch of other packages. So far so good. However, now I'm on Jupiter Notebook trying to import Tensorflow (version 1.4) and it returns the following warning:
I have no idea how to solve this problem. Any hints?
